The enormity of the sea’s expanse
Lifts me in the presence of waves that come,
Go away, and return, again, and again . . .

The breathing of the earth—the lifting tide,
Heaving and sighing from time immemorial—
How small I am, standing a little higher

Than the grains of sand, my breath vanishing
With the winds that sweep out to the sea—
I am conscious of a clock—my heartbeat . . .

My blood surges with each crashing wave;
I feel the spray upon my face, or is it
A little tear, in awe and happiness . . .

I think I am happy; I know I am humbled.

I think I may have related this before, but my father always had a desire to see the ocean. I remember him saying: “Someday, I just want stand by the ocean, and look out toward Japan.” Why Japan? I never knew. Maybe it was the idea that somebody is out there, the way I muse when I take in the stars. I am grateful that in 1969, my brother and I took Dad to the ocean for the first and (regrettably) the last time in his life.

It is so ding-dange great to see you posting again, Dear Art!!! I have the same feelings as you (and your father) when I am standing on the shore of the ocean. I used to live on the East Coast of Canada and I yearn to return!

Yes, it is a very humbling, yet highly ennervating experience!

I am tucking this ocean jewel in my treasure chest for whenever I need to visit the ocean again! Thank you!

Love & Ocean Light,
Linda

Thank you, Linda. I've always appreciated your kind and encouraging words ever since I joined the site. It is good to be back, and I'm hoping to stay focused in this new year, and devote more time to writing, and conversing with my many poets and friends here. I hope your New Year is off to a great start!
