He once played his flute in meadows,
Soothing himself, the rams and ewe.

Times of strife did come
With thunder of warning drum,
A village undone.

He once played his flute in shadows
With sadness that shook the dew.

Four legs follow two
And there’s nothing he can do
His flock is undone.

He once played his flute in darkness,
Wandering the caverns of the earth.

His heart was a drum,
The last beat was soon to come,
A final note sung.

He now plays his flute in sadness,
All he’s been and all his worth.

Gloom
