It didn’t take young Bones long
to discover that his humanity
was not recognized by
middle class America.

The yawning sociological chasm
between middle class America and Bones
is just too great for them to see,
or understand Bones as a human person.

Bones, having great eye sight,
observes and understands their distain.

He also recognizes
that middle class America
is more than willing to use him.

Bobby

a 'write' containing points well made! ...

however, I would attribute 'manipulation/use' of others more to the socio-political,
financial, and corporate 'privileged' class amid the "Runaway American Dream" ...

applause for this slice of reality 'penning' !

Thanks Secondhanddreampoet,

I'm pleased that this poem worked for you at least partially.

I carry the social class I was born into.  For some of us, that never changes.

It is true that many Americans feel compelled to escape the inner cities.  Part of this can be attributed to racism and fear that their property will go down in value.  I guess others fear that the neighborhood would become more susceptible to crime.

Where we come from is in our bones, Bones. Prejudice is a 2 way street. Keep in mind, your hard times make you especially gifted to relate to others that the people who've had it "soft" all their life can't. You can reach out and touch more people because of where you've been.  We like the nitty of your gritty! ebm

Thanks Earl,

For reading and commenting.  The hood is better off with them gone.

The concept that struck me, and still is spinning in my head, is:
(sic. Bones')humanity
was not recognized by
middle class America

and how PERFECT that is a way to show the caste system of America, even though most middle class people say it doesn't exist.

Dehumanize and simply see as a resource to be used... the Nazi way.  A very powerful piece here REJ. Keep em' coming.

A powerful piece, although these days I would comment: "What middle-class America?"
As I heard the actor Jeff Goldblum mouth in a movie on some knock-off TV channel recently:
"There are no more 'Americans', there are only rich people and poor people."

And, I would add, there are those who do dirty deeds for rich people - there are a few of those types, too.

Bobby - In my opinion I believe Bones should have his own identity, and not join the crowds. Better that way...

Thanks Bill,

As a young male prostitute, Bones has an identity rather far removed from the “crowd”.
