In the beginning I had my doubts that he was just too good for me
And with every day that passed the feeling grew a little stronger
The motives looked a little clearer
And my doubts sank in a little deeper
But still I carried on, with this man much too good for me
Until the night we gave it all away
Beneath the roof of the only home I had ever known
The stars seemed to collapse in his eyes
And I could taste an angel's blood on his lips
I never would have thought that night would change it all
Four months later now I have my doubts that I am just too good for him
And with every day that passes my emotions wear a little thin
The truth becomes a bit more clear
And the knife sinks in a little deeper
But still I carry on, with this man not capable of being pleased
Or pleasing me in return for my generous attempts, at least
And each night I give him what's left of me
Beneath the roof of the only home I will ever know
My life seems to collapse before my eyes
I can taste a coward's fear on my tongue
And I think about how oblivious I must have been
To never once stop and think about how that night would change it all

the shoveling of empty into emptier is a hard task...perhaps in time you will see a light below the darkness and it will lead you out again..

I think we all search for a
'clean love'
that doesn't hurt more than it helps.
Loves may match
but souls don't always
and vice versa.
To have both at the same time is Nirvana.

This is so powerful it hurts.
I want to know all of the story behind this one.
Amazing.

Yo dear Emily,

This poem shows a lot of promise.  I would try for a little more simplicity.

SlowlyFallAway - at times the truth only comes out when someone lets their guard down. And that usually comes when being together for a while...
