Between midnight thoughts

I roared inside you like a lion, then cried  your breasts,
You looked at me like a child making more out of less.

Your lips never spoke, but your eyes let it slip,
As I sank into the secrets of your tears like a ship,

In an ocean that held, every nightmared thought,
Conjured by insecurity, the same reality i bought.

I loved being clothed in the salt of your sweat,
So good we felt naked...the sauna of your breath,...

Raised my pores like an army, hairs standing tall like rifles,
Each thing in common with the other, like robeless disciples.

Our glistening bodies, a writhing picture of art,
Our nails etching marks in the desires of our hearts,

Young birds we were, eager to fly into life with our love,
In our hearts we said...please...please world don't shoot us down..

So we flapped, and flapped...till we flew...
Yes we flew in our flesh until nothing was new,

Little did I know, you were like a vase made of mortar,
When you broke, your emotions changed shape like water,

My inexperience so pitiful, like a blunt tool,
Yes love I was the hammer that slipped and shattered you,

Fixing you, was like cupping the water with my hands,
I didnt know how to hold it, so it leaked and it ran,

I saw your face, curdled in its ransfiguration,
The bitten lip, the kissed cheek, the hushed tongue so patient...

Your tenderness, all of it nailed to a cross,
Your face becaome stone, it was then i saw my loss.

Please don't shoot me down...it was too late...
Your tenderness my milk, you took your nipple away,

Sleepless, nerves shot by the uncertainty of hope called despair,
In the company of tears i lay my head there,

Your pictures scattered, your letters all worn,
Like ancient ruins i lingered, when our time was gone.

I searched for some reminicent trace of warmth, of life,
It was as elusive as light and shadow, in a half mooned night;

Left to rummage through the debris, i stared at the hands that tore us down,
While blaming the bricks for falling...why did you shoot me down...

Shattered in my spine, folded in a heap on the ground,
Bloodied feathers strewn across me...why did you shoot me down.
