Bones owes his survival
to two things,
and two things only.

He’s very fast,
and good at math.

It all dawned on him
one day in middle school.

He was out in the hallway
beating up another kid.

Miss Green came out,
grabbed Bones
by the scruff of the neck,
shook him,
and told Bones
that he had a good head
on his shoulders,
and shouldn’t be doing stuff
that is only going to end up
hurting him.

For some reason,
Bones to this day
can’t tell you why,
that encouraged Bones.

Bones got a scholarship
to the University of Pennsylvania,
and became an engineer.

By the time he retired at seventy,
he had done consulting engineering
on every continent on this small planet,
except Antarctica.

Thank you Miss. Green.

Bobby

This is a different face of Bones.  This series goes in many directions and sometimes lacks consistency.  Not that there is anything wrong with Bones getting a degree but it all comes too sudden.  From male prostitute to college graduate in the space of a few poems is a bit much to swallow.

Thanks Earl,

I'm sorry to hear that the poems are coming too suddenly for you.

Try a nice cool glass of water to help with your swallowing problem, and try to relax.

I continue to enjoy Bones.  I like his diction.  He's very plain spoken, man and boy.  You have killed him once, and now he is an engineer.  I like that you are giving him a chance and two lives, which is better than most of us get.
He may be able to talk you into almost anything when it's true and when you want to believe him.  I like to see how the two of you work things out.

Just goes to show that we never know what words can do.  Pays to be careful then when we speak but, of course, some people are deaf even when they aren't.  I'm glad Bones wasn't.

I'm pleased that you enjoy the Bones story, and like my diction.  Thanks for the kind words.

Things always get worked out in the end.

Thanks dear Honeybunch,

Bones is very astute, and he's all ears.

I'm glad I didn't have to depend on math to survive.

Thanks to Mrs. D... 4th grade... who knew I couldn't read. She took me all the way back to phonics and, "Here is the sound an "a" makes." Now-a-days you never see me without a book in my hand. I worked 15 years on the mic, in radio, reading script... and currently teach 4th grade. I guess Bones and I have that much in common. Thanks for reposting.

Thanks Andrew,

Now you see how nice Mrs. D... was.  I'm sure you're taking good care of all those 4th graders.  It took me two years to get out of 4th grade.
