Those Held Dear

Sleep then, perchance to dream an irreconcilable dream
I shall not disturb thy slumber with my values or my fears
There will not be struggle or contempt, nary an objection
I am the wind outside your window, cello to the tunes of night
The first to hear your heart as you disclose that which it holds
Perhaps, the orphaned ear of love, for only God knows before you tell
In the absence of sound, the mind fills such void with emotion
Perhaps the truest potion of a higher force, perhaps fate
Whatever stirs the ocean, the drown is soft
So sleep then, enfolded in my arms though I am but the wind
I will not abandon or forget, what will as yet inspire
Speak the sacred words that lift the depths up higher
For when the time to rest arrives, I simply lay my head
Upon the beating heart of love, and breathe the scent eternal

well done! ...

particularly fine ending:

"For when the time to rest arrives, I simply lay my head
Upon the beating heart of love, and breathe the scent eternal"

applause for this 'penning' !

This is such a gentle poem, and the peacefulness is felt deeply.

I too am drowning in this poem Kathy.

And not wanting to be saved. You know I love everything you write, this is no exception. Soft, gentle and romantic.
