Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

The wind is howling, howling, howling
As it shrieks past dark window panes
It grips the snow in its fists
And shatters it like falling rain

The trees succumb to bluster’s bite
Then shudder, falling to the earth
Each branch reaches towards the sky
As they are buffeted with mirth.

The dance grows frenzied and beyond belief
The house leans to its rock and roll
Make merry, wind that howls and screams
The time will come to pay the toll

The snow will blow; the trees will bow
Until you find great need to rest
Then you see, your strength will die
The trees will grasp you to their breast

You will be placed under arrest

Oh, Alison, I love this!  We, the readers, too are can under the spell of the wind - it is terrifying us with its dangerous power, but enrapturing us with the Rimski-Korsakov music it is conducting and the wild Rudolf Nureyev dance it is inspiring.

I want you safe from the wind, but please forgive me if I apologetically confess that I am glad you experienced it (was it 3.30am?) so that you could give birth to this wonderment.  Thank you for presenting it to us.

PS Please be gentle with the wind after it has been arrested . . .

Oh goodness, I know about OC wind but thankfully not the snow.  Such a descriptive poem, Alison, and so well done as to give me the shivers.

I'm still smiling at the very last line.

I got blown all around as I was reading this and I shivered. But I could relate so well. Excellent delivery of those frozen images.......There's a reckoning coming I guess....smile...

Now I'm looking for someone to post bail...Might be a problem....smile ...That's what I get for branching out!
The only reason I make mention of this is because some have refered to me as a big bag of wind so I thought it was relevant.

Take Care

".... oh, is there a more welcome resting place than the trees' breast?"

... thinks the wind

Most compelling work, dear Alison.

I love this. Well, I love everything you write!! We live on top of a mountain in the mountains of NH and I sure do understand the wind.

It howls here and the whole house shakes. There are times I'm sure we're going to be transported to either Oz or the lake down below!!

Bear me away to cold,
to dizzing, airy, wendy heights,
Where people have to wear protective clothing
and carry their own oxygen to breath;
and kiss the breasts of Heaven.

Even after everything, I do confess there's something about a storm. (small storm)?

It's a bit sexy, I think. I guess it's all that pent up energy finally being released.

(don't mind me, I was finally prescribed hormones, and it's like rain in the desert)

*chuckle* and a teensy uh-oh...

Superb work, Ali-lovie.
