It was winter
And she was wearing her winter coat
It was white of course
As always
She stood rooted to the earth
Swaying slightly with the breeze
The white dripping from her arms
Exposing her green as she shivered
Suddenly she dropped her coat to the ground
She was herself again
Naked in her needles

This took me back to winters spent on the back of my horse when the snow would all of a sudden drop off branches (scared the bejeebers out of my horse but that's a different story lol). Those were good times, thank you

Beautiful, Kat.  I have only been in a tiny bit of snow once in my life of 65 years.  I have seen it on a few occasions on the tips of mountains.  It must be a wonderful world, though not easy in which to live, I gather.

Owl - Thanks for stopping by! Winter can be harsh sometimes but also very beautiful. I just take it day by day sometimes until spring but I love living here in Maine.

And we love that your other home is here, with us Kat, keeping us warm with your lovely writing and beautiful spirit.

It's almost time for that tree to take off her coat and shake the white boughs from her hair ever green.

Richy - Thanks for the nice comements, it's nice to be wanted, glad I found a friendly home here at PIP thanks to you and everyone else here.
Alison - thanks for stopping by and reading my poem. I was inspired by a pine tree in my yard as I watched the snow dropping of the branches.

What a perfect portrait of a pine tree in winter. I love it, surprise ending and all. Bravo!

Just beautiful, Katahdin. We don't have snow here in So. Cal. (except in the mountains) but I have lived where it snows and have to agree that there is a special beauty about winter that is unforgettable.

I haven't seen snow in many, many years but it felt like it reading your lovely poem...enjoyed it much!

There must be a poem in here somewhere.

A pine tree shaking off what had clothed her hours ago, wanting to be free and naked against the world. Gotta love it. And I do.

this was lovely...I've spent a great deal of time lately admiring the trees (and I have a lot of trees) as they've lost more leaves and needles this year than in years past...you captured the essence of that naked beauty well...good write
