RAIN MEMORIES
17 December 2005

Curtains of soft grey mist
and rainblack road
and fresh green hills and fields -
the silence shouts
and you, my children,
are again with me
in Vernon, the Volkswagen Variant,
voices bubbling
and all of us
lifted into a rain-excitement
bathed in an unconscious happiness
untinged with pain,
and the memory
crumples me.

We are always on the edge, and certainly you have done well to convey that here. I like calm-ish rainy days, am glad that plants and little animals get relief from their thirst, but I do not like disasters.

Thanks for a good read that I shall remember.

Thank you, Belle.  Yes, this was very much inside.  Thanks for understanding.

I kind of like being crumpled now and then, though it's not as often as it once was

good writing!

Spiros, I loved your reply – more lyrical than my poem!  And yes, I believe I know what you mean and thank you.

Thank you, Dixie – in my case, I don’t know about “liking” being crumpled, but I think allowing one to be, can be cathartic, and help to reverse the situation – or at least as much as it can be.

Thank you, Faith.  Late, early, in between – I have very little sense of time, so none of that is comprehensible or very important to me – my pleasure is you got here.  Thank you for your very kind words.

Thank you, Steaven.  I am glad you enjoyed it so much.

Thank you Yann.  The memory is of being on the open road with my children in my car which was a Volkswagen Variant to which I gave the name of Vernon.  My present car is Gretta, the Jetta (again a Volkswagen, although I have had other types of cars too).

ahhh Diana, you brought
back memories of my own
children and those carefree
moments
never to be found again

except in our hearts
our crumpled hearts

Ida, I am sad and glad my poem did that for you.  Hugs.

Kate, I guess your memories, too, are bittersweet.  Hugs to you too.

Memories can do that, as many mothers know.

But I did have to smile, that you named your vehicle, as I do the same.
