Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2011-01-02 12:03 PM

Placating a homesick dog
One hundred pounds
Of barking, howling Akita
Full of pure want-to-go-home
Sadness that no milk bones or pats
Can assuage or make up for the fact that
She does not want to be with me

Honestly?  I try to hid the fact
That I really don’t want her any longer either
The 1:00 am walks have worn me out
Looking in her eyes
And seeing that I don’t make the grade
Is not very fulfilling either.

So ~ I whine and she howls
And we both just want her
To go home!

Thank you, DrinaLove.  She's a gorgeous dog who is homesick.  I am a pet lover who is tired.  So I turn to whining in a poem.

Happy New Year.

I'd be whining too, Alison. Hope you solve the problem soon.

Not the best way to begin the New Year.

it's like I'm being hugged by everything good in the world.—August 16, 2010

Not easy to live with a creature that you know really doesn't want to be with you...and worse when you really don't want to be with them, either. Oh, you were talking about a dog??

Always a pleasure, Alison

There is still a sense of love and loyalty in your poem.

Sad though~  I feel for you both~

Ida,

We seem to be working things out.  She was howling and fussing so I'd come downstairs with her.  Once she realized she had to be where I am and I wasn't going to run to her, she settled down.  No 1:00 am walk this morning and a good night sleep for both of us.

Love you,
A

-

Jerry,

I have high hopes for this year.  The reason she is with me is her family burned out on Christmas day.  I have the dog and parrot until they can find a house to rent.  It could be worse for us all - all of them got out.  So, Yay for this new year of 2011.  I am more than happy to turn my back on 2010.

We are adjusting and becoming fast friends now.

Thank you for thinking of us.

-

Lori,

Her eyes are dancing and my are somewhat humorously resigned.  I am manipulated by three cats, three dogs and a parrot. My life is chaos!!!

Ah the perils of looking after a friend's dog.
Just can't make the grade.
Loved this and I sure can visualize the eyes and attitude.

Just wanted to say that I've read this three times and like it very much.

Walk the dog backwards.

Then be still and know she is god.

(I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.)

Happy New Year, Alison.

Oh, dear Alison, at 1am with the temperatures you have, that must be tremendous!

Love this and I am sure you will get along well and when she will go home you will miss her.

Love and Happy New Year!

I've done this for friends, but I was able to walk my own dog at the same time ... they were both happy and I got a workout

Karen,

I tried the walking the dog backwards and gained a half hour.  The coolest idea yet!  Thank you and Happy New Year.

Margherita,

It's warmed up a lot - we are about 20 above now.  And, my newest girlfriend and I are adjusting well.

Thank you lots.

Rex,

I think I have a house-full at the moment.  I can walk the dogs, but this one howls and barks her deepest bark when she thinks it is time to get her way.

Ain't gonna happen.  I am winning and now we are all becoming happier.

Thank you.

Yeah, homesick dogs are pretty weird.  Oh wait - my writing is pretty weird.  Umm, the blue on the page is weird too.  Oh what the hell, it's all weird.

Thanks for liking.

Marti,

She's still here and has settled in beautifully. She has become part of the "Puppy Pack" (which includes three dogs and three cats).

Life is good - if not crowded.

Hi incwrite.

You sound like my kind of person.  I leave the radio on for the parrot I am taking care of.  Sheba, the Akita, is a love.  She is sleeping beside me now.  Her "parents" came over yesterday and she was happy to see them, but did not fuss when they left.

She has space in my house anytime - thank you for the tips and for taking the time to write and care.

Alison
