I sat in my place of quiet contemplation
as I often do...

On my favorite bench,
my rock,
my home base

with the great revolutionary behind my back
over my shoulder, my pillar of strength
in this town, religion forgot...
Jan Huss

My iron, my bronze
my copper giant, green
standing tall and strong
the hordes reaching for him
clambering for him
but n'ere do they touch

I wish I could have changed the order of events as they occurred,
but I cannot
in these moments of truth

and so, I looked up
to the tower
the great town hall
the clock on the bugle blower's sprawl

and there the minute hand wavered
back and forth
as if time had stopped
wavering, afraid to move on

I glanced down
to the legs of a pretty girl
as she walked on
and I looked back
and a minute had passed by

as if moving on was
just that simple

to my right, I glanced away from the vision
and there was the ghost of she
and I
there in her black blazer
on that beautiful day, and joyful ride

and so tears began to well
and two may have fell
the story true
and bitter to tell

I looked back up
and saw that hand wavering
back and forth
watching, waiting
I saw that hand move forward
and lock into place

as time passes by

for with great sunshine
comes great shadows
sitting in the shade
beneath a clear blue sky

This is an awesome poem. Makes on think about how time flies by but the memories, good or bad, still remain. I truly enjoyed the read!!!

This is beautiful, martiniat8, surprisingly so from the title I have to say. I know nothing about the history of Staroměstské Namesti, but II know passion and failed love when I read about it. Although knowing zilch about the Old Town Square I still became mesmerized by your words about it and the hesitant clock. Well done, my friend.
