The journey down life's road is frail,
deep within us there is a sad tale.
The road we trod, full of unknown,
and sometimes we're hurt to the bone.

We grapple with knowledge of fate,
solemn discussions and debate.
All for naught our intellect grieves,
its all the same come the next eve.

We are one with our destiny,
on the road with sorrow or glee.
Reaching out for religions part,
maybe secular a la carte.

This road, this winding road ahead,
is fraught with grief and we have bled.
There are no easy and sure ways,
some die young, some grow old and gray.

For most of us the road we take,
is not what we thought we would make.
Our purpose change forevermore
the past doesn't work; slam the door.

The roads we walk we do not choose,
not like we'd order up a cruise.
It's laid out for us, ours to trod,
though some would say it's made by God.

Each mile we walk we liter some,
what's left behind's our total sum.
We trod toward our fateful end,
sometimes we wonder where's our friends.

Through no fault of ours we are cursed,
as we search around for the hearse.
From dust to dust is how it's said,
give us this day our daily bread.

You spend alot of time on the theme of letting go of past mistakes and life isn't all roses etc.  I have come to believe these beautiful pep talk poems are being written just for my gettin' older dumb ass. Jerry, Thank you so much you help me every day to see that indeed the sun will come out tomorrow or at least by sometime next week. Gotta love it!

Good sumation of life's paths.
Some wonderful lines of wisdom and common sense. Some wonderful lines of writer's honesty and some appeal to the unknown.

Great writing Jerry!!

Lori, if anything I have posted has had a positive effect on you then I am truly blessed. I write poetry because it is in me to do it. I try not to preach or give advice, although sometimes it comes out like that, but mostly the advice I give is for my own consumption. Thank you for reading me, I dearly appreciate it.

Ah, Eric, when you get as old as I am that's about all that is left, trying to make sense of it all. Thank you for the read and comment.

I'd like to hope that I leave behind some trash worth picking up. I enjoyed your words. I've been gone a while... hope all is well in this new year. Peace.

Letting the world around you guide you sometimes it is the wrong choices you make. Nice work

A black cat ran in front of me tonight. I'm not worried. They don't bother Warlocks.
