SOLITARY FOREST DANCE
11 August 2011

As the sun sank low,
the woodnymph
danced,
swan-like,
alone, alone, alone
in a clearing
in her forest-home,
a sad, soft smile
playing on her lips.

Her music
was the twittering
of sleepy birds.
Her dance
painted the story
of her sadness
and joy,
her fears
and passions,
her loves
and hates,
her anger
and forgiveness
in muted forest colours,
the softness of her ivory dress
enhancing the curves
of her body.

There was no-one
to see
so her spirit was free
to dance
the wild and gentle story
that her heart lived
and remembered,
dance,
dance,
dance
till she dropped
gracefully
into sleep
under a guardian tree
to wake a dove
that took flight
heavenwards.

That was lovely! I love the quality of peace and calming you poems always seem to have and the pretty pictures you paint in my head.

What a delightful "fairytale", Diana. I love following your train of thought.

The scenery you write of is magical, the emotions are fragile and so very real.

Pretty poetry, Lady Owl~

Lori, thank you.  You cannot know the intensity of the deep-seated happiness it brings me to know that I have brought calm and peace to one person for one moment, even if that person had both already, and mine only resonated with theirs.  To have brought it to somebody to didn’t have it at that moment brings me even more happiness.

Thank you, Ida.  Your replies are always so warm and uplifting.

Thank you, Ruth.  I am glad you felt the magic.  Smiles.

Thank you, Blues for feeling the heart of it.

For me, the passage above rather effectively also captures/encompasses
the superb quality of your writing ... such a 'penning' IS your 'dance'!

Thank you Alison.  We live in such a wonderful world - with magic to experience with all our senses, imagination to use, art to create, and power to turn negative to positive.  We poets are in a position to do this, and Pip is abundant with such poets, one of these being you.

Kind ice-fishing sir, methinks thou knowest true . . .

Thanks for loving my poetry and this poem, ice.

Thank you eg.  Actually, no, it isn’t about freedom at all.  You misunderstood the significance of the word “free” in it.  But thanks for enjoying it anyway.
