Come poet
Sing us a song
Of courage

Death waits us
In our old age
Help us still
With a tune recall
When we were young

Our bones betray us
The once we were

Those who never left
Their city walls
However right and good
The begging cause
Now fill us in each evening’s
Creaking hour with their terrors

Sing of dragons
Evil kings
Met with God’s
Noble oriflammes

Let us pass
Ourselves
Remembering

Come poet
Sing our song

I like this - had to look up oriflammes, though. Have watched the In Search of Myths and Legends programme many times...

Poets do not shoot fish in barrels, we woo them---and the barrels, too.
