unfolding memories
that she never shares
rewriting them to her liking
then asking "who cares"

choosing the ending
again and again
trying not to remember
how it really was then

forming a creedance
with a bottle of booze
still forging a battle
with a little to lose

now with sorrows that
she's stored tidily away
she picks up anohter
glass of chardonay

tomorrow will
take care of its self
as the dust continues
to collect on the box
on the shelf

I have one of those boxes.  In fact, I once wrote about mine too.  I might just repost it after reading this.

"trying not to remember
how it really was then"

Something "then" was real enough to save the trinket.  One must determine whether they are longing for something they savored, or are savoring something they longed for.

Good write.

Nice work on a despairing subject.Seems everyone has a despairing subject today, myself included.

That chardonnay doesn't help, but it does blunt the pain, so I suppose you could say that it helps.

Thanks to all of you....it is nice to hear what my poetry might mean to others .... since words can mean different things to different people....

I've done some of those rewrites... and have a box. *S* I guess I always will... they're part of me whether on a shelf or in the trash... and some parts can't be drowned. *S* Powerful and poignant write!
