IF WE WERE STILL TOGETHER
24 July 2011

If we were still together
I would tell you how lovely it was
to spend my usual Sunday evening
at my son’s house for supper
and how when I came home,
I was looking forward
to the mutual adoring welcome
of Benji-barks and Cleo-meeows
waiting for me at the door
as soon as I opened it,
but that tonight there was also
a glorious magnum-mass choir
of my froggy friends
singing me a joyous exhilarating welcome
from somewhere nearby.

This I would tell you
if we were still together . . .

Yeah, those four words, "if we were together" carry a heavy meaning in this poem, Owl. I can feel the sorrow.

/sigh. I, probably more oftern than I should, do find myself holding conversation with one no longer there. Maybe that makes me crazy... but then, that probably is better than the alternative.

As usual, i can feel this as much as read it. Well done.
