WINDOW VIGIL
21 July 2011

As motionless as a stone-cold statue,
she sat on the window seat,
chin on hands,
with saddened eyes
gazing through the closed window,
imagining him running up the path
to sweep her into his arms again,
but, how silly she was,
she thought to herself,
of course, he wouldn’t,
so,
forlornly,
she picked herself up
and,
with one last glance
willing the indifferent glass
to frame his form,
she turned away
and with sorrowed steps
she left the room
and slowly
oh, so slowly
as though thrice adream
she entered the kitchen
to put the kettle on
for one.

A peek in a window at lonliness..
A kettle for one is sad, when one does not want to be alone.

Your words capture the emotion of moments very well Diana..these situations occur, and must be written about. Only a poet can do that effectively, as you have demonstrated here..

Sad but fine writing and great ending.

Thank you, Ford.  You worded it well – “when one doesn’t want to be alone.”  I revel in solitude most of the time (barring my animals, of course), but missing one particular person – well, that is a completely different thing.  Thank you for understanding so well.

Thank you for your kind words, Ida.  Smiles.

Thoughts against reality in this one Owl. Trying to make it happen in her mind, knowing that is where it is, but still can't help herself. This is a common occurrence all over the world I am quite positive. Liked your line breaks.

Thank you, Jerry.  You are right, but in a way, he is still there.

I understand this so much... sometimes I revel in memories and other times, wish for forgetting... and either way, the table's set for one. *S* Beautiful work, beautiful lady!!

Thank you, Ruth.  I would rather you didn't understand this!  Smiles.

Some poetry reads like a novel to me, and with so few words, I read of life.  This is such a poem.  Few words and, yet, so filled with longing and lonliness.  It makes my heart cry a bit. That's a great poem, in my opinion.
