Gossamer Fantasies

Napping one afternoon,
I dreamed I tripped, and fell over a cloud.
The cloud was actually solid.
I ran my fingers over it.
It felt moist and cool to the touch.
It felt smooth, mushy and puffy,
delicate, feel-through gossamer,
like candy that has not yet set.
The exquisite outer skirt of a storm goddess?
I wondered how it might have felt
to have been borne aloft, in her arms,
ascending, higher and higher,
through dizzying and windy heights,
Please, take me Higher ... still HIGHER ... even HIGHER!
Please, please, I plead,
take me EVER HIGHER!! ... take me Higher!!!
HIGHER still.
Please, take me to a place
where gossamer pillow fantasies come true,
Borne up, up and away
from the ground, the earthly and profane,
to fuse with Sky and be with her.
I wondered how it might have felt
to have held airy dreams in my arms ...

But then I woke.  I had to come down
from the dizzying heights and the clouds,
where people have to wear protective clothing,
and carry their own oxygen to breathe;
down ... down ... down ...
down to the dirt, the earthly and profane.
It was just a dream, but I confess,
that in my eyes there were more
than just a tear or two of longing.
And even the act of writing this
enhances and amplifies that longing
for someone who seeks someone like me
haunted, sad, and beautiful ...
Spirit of the Night ...

Jaime, this is the type of poetry that you write and no one else seems to touch.  It's whimsical, thought-provoking, visual and very real.  I like it lots.

Thank you, Jaime Friend,
Alison
