What happened to your dedication
All the limited time you would have bartered
Simply to convey the most insignificant statement
To turn me against myself
You were my inspiration
Though through so many nights together
I cringed at the thought of loving you
Even more than I loved myself
And despite verbalized discretions
I held onto you, for better - but mostly worse
Not able to draw the least bit of sympathy
For all the times you let me down
And the day I was able to grab your attention
Through self inflicted imitations
And one more round of weak assumptions
I saw accomplishment in your eyes
Because what I thought of as your lack of understanding
Was just a washed out simulation
A glimpse of recognition
Of all the things I'd never have with you

I like this. It gets to the nitty gritty. I especially liked your last line.
