you can call me melba she whispered
and offered the green side of her glances,
kind of like the toast she said
I am usually brown on both sides
and just a little brittle in the middle

I do the speedy tan down on 3rd ave
when I am not working in my garden
making my freckles multiply
like any other crackle barrel countessa
that does this dawn shift, then she leaned

and shared some of her specials for the day
with a view of her two breast friends
and I said two hundred and twenty one
since I had time to count most of them
while she southern talked my coffee

oh I have thousands of them everywhere
but you are an observant stranger anyway
like most men are until the morning after
well,  this is my morning after I replied
so I will take some scrambled eggs and bacon

and an order of biscuits on the side
and for the lady, a strawberry waffle
with one of those whip cream smiles
some hot cocoa in a taller cup
and maybe one of those roses too

a handful of those candy kisses would be good
in a paper cup with some ice for cool
so they stay firmly attentive til later
and can you make this all to go please
perhaps some more coffee while I am waiting

she read me like a short story then
sizing me up and down and all around
like I was a climbing wall she would use
and she was looking for her hand holds
which I enjoyed watching in her eyes

she brought my order three cups later on
had switched me over to decaf she said
so my spooning would not get the jitters
was up to three hundred and eighty six now
as she became more comfortable with her charms

and gave me a personal business card
said she taught guitar, and acupuncture
was ordained to speak on sunday mornings
out in azel she said as she showed me brail
over her phone number, in case I fell in love

she said I could still read her digits
said she was a belly to soul salvation girl
and everything else in between if needed
and did I like my jaguroar, is sounded sexy
when I pulled in, yes she said, she had noticed

it could have been a roach coach afterward
when I unloaded my orders at mikes garage
across from the embassy there on west 30
for that broken down couple from tulsa
along with a franklin to help with repairs

they said god would bless me mysterious
as I drove back across the beltway
and went up to my suite to watch the game
to wait for the change of shift at the barrel
and to see if melba would get my message

about having all weekend to continue counting

Okay, that does it!  I want the book.  I want to curl up and read your stories, touching them with the tip of my fingers anytime I want them.  I want to touch the words and dog ear the pages.  I want to write my notes in the margins.  I want it and I want it now!

So there!

ms ali-san..I write on stone usually so the book would be pretty heavy..dog earing would require a jack hammer and you would end up with gravel in your bed...sounds a bit erockic now that I think about it...I will be right over.

ms gs..thank you sweet lady...I guess you would have to just take me...I never did a book since they are so hard to carry on the scoot.

Wow!  You are a miracle-man.  You got Donna-girl out of hiding.  I miss her face (as my niece says).

Interesting. As I was reading this piece, I was thinking about how I would love to have a book of your poetry. Then I saw the comments and there were people saying the same thing I was thinking!

I don't know if you will ever produce one or not but, if you do, I'll be one of your first customers...and I'm sure thousands of other will be in line with the right publicity.

That's always the rub, isn't it???

Evviva! We must create the critical mass to convince the man, THE POET!
