Oh, by all means
I am grateful
there's no more air
filling my lungs
which would need
to be expelled.
This aging process;
this rotting away
even as you live
has to be somebody's
cruel idea of a joke.
God?
Hah!
Anyway, the aging
has stopped, only
the rotting continues
as I finally and lastly
lie here dead as that
dammed doornail we've
heard so much about.

Of course I am, I
made sure of that.
Took sleeping pills,
enough to bring
down a raging bull
elephant, then raised
shiny blue barrel of
the .38 to my head
pulled the trigger. Pills
or bullets–one of 'em's
gotta work, eh?
Just wanted to make
sure. My lifelong
dread was living in
a coma, not being
able to move. No.
Not my thing. So!
Now that I'm dead
I'm finding I still think.
Drat.
That's depressing.
Can't move a muscle,
my strength is gone,
but I can think. How
long do you reckon?

No matter. Really, it's
okay. In the end I was
not strong enough to
fight it. Oh, you think
I mean death. I don't.
Death is the only
alternative to what
faced me, why in the
world wouldn't you
think so? If not death,
what, then? Life, my
inquisitive reader, life
put up its dukes, I
shadowboxed a few
rounds with it, then
acquiesced.
No mas! No mas!
Life won. It was all
I could do to stay
alive. In those days
I wanted life. Life
was important to
me. I had harlots
to bed, trash like
me. Society
ladies can be trash
don'tcha'know?

I'm waiting to see
God. Maybe Satan.
I've benign feelings
about Satan. He was
a get-down party kind
of spirit. God?  Party
pooper. Sorry folks
I'm dead, I can say
these things. Still I'd
like to see Him. Have
questions I’d like to
ask. Not so the other
one, Satan and I are
as one. That sound
a little disrespectful?
Uh huh. So be it. God
asks too much, doesn't
give up much. Heaven?
you say? Ah, maybe so.
That's what I'm waiting
for. Somebody ought
to be showing up here
and lead me to either
Heaven or Hell. Maybe
purgatory? Maybe.
Or maybe to some place
neither of the two have
bothered telling us about.
Wouldn’t that be a trip?

Actually, Jerry, I think it will be a trip, a bit of a surprise party. Hell doesn't sound like much fun and think of the people you know who are sure they are going to heaven. Would you want to spend eternity with them? Bring on the alternative.

If there's an all loving God, and I believe there is, then there can't be a hell. The one contradicts the other.

Yu put a lot into your poem Jerry and it comes through loud and clear.

Peace and Love,
Marcia

"If there's an all loving God, and I believe there is, then there can't be a hell."

But that is what the Bible tells us.

Also, Marcia, if there is an all loving God he would NEVER allow small children to be ravaged by horrible diseases and violently abused. In a way I can understand the abuse, because a "sinner" is doing it, bunt in the case of children coming down with these horrible and painful diseases, that's just wrong.

Dying's over rated, my friend. So I decided to stick around...

I just love ...

"Anyway, the aging
has stopped, only
the rotting continues"

That nails it!
