Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2011-04-10 02:38 PM

While I sleep; while I sleep
in the deepness of the night.
There I keep; there I keep
all the secrets I hold tight.

As I roam through the dark
I hold my dreams at bay
Not all paths lead to home
I plead to find my way

Memories break and swirl
Their dervish glares are stark
Frenzied thoughts dance and haunt
They leave me with their mark

Carve my night into day
The light breaks up the moon
Let me bask in the dawn
it beams into my room

Let me wake; let me wake
to greet another day.
As I break; as I break
The web of dreams away

(As some of you know, I lost my confidence in my ability to write a couple of years ago.  I have clawed my way back, often forcing poems.  I woke up to this poem this morning ~ almost humming it ~ and I felt released.  I don't add comments normally to my poetry, but thank you to all who bolstered me up. ~ Alison)

Congratulations, Alison, on being "released." I know that feeling very well.

You certainly broke the web of dreams away with this one.

The repetition of a few of these lines
are just like that, coming out of the
dream web, breaking through...

Alison, this is awesome!

Headed for my library too!

This is so wonderfully expressed, dear Alison. No signs of forcing, the flow is just perfectly harmonious. Love this rhyme scheme.

Alison, this is, as all your art, an exquisite poem, and I have devoured every Alison or Aziza poem I have ever come across.  I feel your anguish (hugs to you) and the passage of your multiple emotions so accurately, beautifully, expertly and sensitively expressed right the way through.  You know, I “get”/ understand/appreciate/admire/feel pretty much every single thing you write, but what I simply don’t get is how you, of all people, could possibly lose confidence in your ability to write poetry!  I know it is a serious matter (hugs), and for that reason, I am loath to burst out laughing, nor to compare your losing your confidence in your ability to write poetry to believing that the sun got lost or the oceans forgot to be wet, but those are, in my humble opinion, accurate analogies.  What I can assure you, is that nobody else could possibly have lost their confidence in your ability to write poetry.  I, for one, have been reading your poetry for years, and regard you as a poet of excellence in every sphere, and one of the very best in Pip, and one whose works that I find, as I said, I never pass over without reading.

This is pert sweet honny bun...

Now what's all this nonsense about... losing, the ability, to pen... ?!

Don't always worry about the form, and the structure, and the rules.  You hear that voice in your heart right now... just write that down... its that easy... don't try to tame it my friend. Let it be free, just like you.

It is a delightful poem, Alison, with a great rhythm. I agree with Richy.  Don't worry about form - make your own.

Owl,

I am simply blown away by your comment.  You are a very intuitive woman, and I am amazed when you express your feelings about my writing.  I need to look at it through your eyes, maybe.

Love you,
Alison

-

Richy,

Thank you.  You do my heart good.  It wasn't about form.  Sometimes I use form (or I am learning forms, which has helped me grow); sometimes I don't use form.  One of my sisters (who I was once closest to) lashed out at me a couple of years ago.  One of the things that she cut me open with was her opinion of my poetry.  Now, I know the old "sticks and stones" thing, but it hurt me pretty deeply.  I lost the desire and confidence to write.  With encouragement, I didn't quit, pushed through and now I am past that.  Yay.

Thank you,

Alison... I know how hard it is when you want to write but just can't get the feel. I also have forced my self to write at times just trying to get motivated but instead I get aggreviated. The way I see it is poetry found me once and hopefully it will find me again. It's very hard when your mind and heart just can't find a way to do what you love doing. I enjoyed the poem...Paul

Allison,

I've always thought you had a unique gift with your writing personally. Never doubt yourself in your abilitys. But I guess we
all do that from time to time. I enjoyed this it was very cleverly written.

DS,

This is a belated response to what you wrote, but you make a lot of sense.  I, too, write because I enjoy it and I write for myself.  So, I agree with you and appreciate you more than you will know.

Thank you, friend of mine.
