False Pretenses
By Paul Wilson

Your eyes lead me
past threshold of doubt
Promises…words spoken
out of need

Double edge sword
wielded by you
leave deep scars
unable to heal

You got what you needed
no matter the cost
soon tables will turn
all will be lost

Running out the door
down the street
temptation more than
you can handle

Afraid to let your
feelings show
false pretenses
who will ever know

Five o’clock shadow
cast it’s lonely shape
upon your living hell
while you weep

Night brings doubt
as the reaper smiles
come with me
the wind says

Flames of darkness
flicker at your souls
as you dance in circles
till morning comes

Somebody seems to be in real trouble. Liked the snappy way you constructed the dark poem, Mr. Wilson.

Dear Paul, this gives me the chills. You have written a true thriller poem here, with a touch of sadness.

Great job.

Love,
Margherita

Is it getting a little chilly in here or what?
Your title says it all and your poem portrays an unconcious
and uncaring heart.  But heck, you sure got your point across
and wrote this with a certain kind of pretense, false or otherwise.

Good reading, Paul~

This was very well written, a little dark, but if thats what your intent was you sure succeeded! I enjoyed it very much.

Nice to be reading you again - even the darker stuff.  I like this.  It's interesting how you created the images that I saw.

JP2...Glad you took time to read & thanks for your reply. You don't have to call me Mr. Wilson just plain old Paul is fine...Paul

Margherita...Glad to hear from you dear lady. I'm still struggling with my writting, still trying to get back in the groove. Thanks for everything...Paul

Blues...Glad to hear from you. It's been awhile since I posted here, but every now and then I get time to read other poets and you are one that I always try to keep up with. Thanks so much for your reply, glad you enjoyed...Paul

faithmairee...Thanks for the read & reply. I'm told most of my poetry is sort of on the dark sad side, but thats where my thoughts dwell. I sometime try to let my anger and pain out thru my poetry...Paul

dreamgal...Glad you took time to read & I hope it wasn't to dark for you. Thanks...Paul

Allison...As always thanks for your kind reply. Sometime I just get my inspiration from a dark place in my mind. I often wonder what would happen if all the people that decieve others would have to go thru what they put others thru with their lies?...Paul

as others have commented, 'tis a darker write, but these lines are just too cool:

"Flames of darkness
flicker at your souls
as you dance in circles
till morning comes"

...well written

Paul! You're back! ~ with another fine poem coming from somewhere in "Between Fantasy and Reality". You certainly know how create a mood and pull your readers into it! Then again, creating an atmosphere with strong emotions is what you do best!

Love to you!
