people who defy tradition
men and women with a higher aim,
contrary to standardized theories
probing id for Om
conventional thinking thrown out the window
along with competitiveness

just want to groove
nothing to prove

rethinking days of sixties' glory
wandering through life
staying in one place until bored
praying to acid freak gurus for the pitiful poor
love and peace evermore
name of their game . . . gettin' down, man

sing loud and clear
they had good cheer

purge societal ills which scourge the land
don't fit in
gypsy blood, bucking the rule of law
old out of place for this new world order
current ways flawed,
dig it, man

establishment
has a bad scent

too many living in dungeon cells
not the fat cats though, they got all the bread
in the cool sixties they had truth
dude, let it all hang out
their mantra
tune in, drop out, better red than dead

open all the jails
we shall prevail

hate moderation
screaming acid trips where its at
happy pilgrims to their gurus
why don't everyone over thirty-years-old
just die off
so we don't have to kill you

world order change
home on the strange

revolution gonna come, steadfastly searched for the flame
forever lowered intelligent bar
lighting that fuse
blow up the how things now stand
anything better
sheiks, maharishi, modern-day czars

dude, dig the sky
iron butterfly

oh, no! timothy leary is dead
communes broke up
jealousy ruled the day just like their parents did
some went out twenty-story windows
feeling good all the way down, dude
party over

old hippies sad
just like their dad

You make a good point Jerry and I love the blast to the past and memories of my older brothers in those free love days.  It's funny that back then I wasn't a hippy but now every one thinks I was one  (guess I'm just cool like that)

I was too young to enjoy all the hippie days, but seen woodstock, and sure have seen and heard enough about those days.
Seems like the best of times. Liked this
Jerry a good write.

Haha! Yeah, Lori, maybe that's it, you're a cool momma. Thanks for the input.

Well, actually, dreamgal, although it did seem like the best of times, but there was plenty wrong with those days, I'll drop another poem about the sixties soon perhaps. Thank you for being here.

Beliefs come and go, it looks like we are in permanent search for the ideal way of life (where responsibilities are hopefully small ...), but then - just like you state so very well here - it all proves to be temporary bliss.
The picture you painted of those Sixties is neat and thought provoking, dear Jerry!

Love,
Margherita

Thank you, Margherita, I do believe you "got" the message.
