He brandishes his thoughts
Like a sword held aloft in might
His subconscious a shield
Borne through that uncertain night
Of anger and rage
Tools of his trade
Applied with just cause
Upon ideals reverently laid
Righteous in every respect
Grim of eye, and tightened grip
His valiant stand against foes
Behind locked tight lips
Imagined or real
See them fall
Each one silent reminders
Of everyone of us all
As he battles continually
No end in sight
Only more to test his strength
This everlasting night
His resolve of purpose
Goes on forever
As thoughts always do
Until he falters
A fatal misstep
And his sword breaks in two

You render the battle between Id and Ego very powerfully, dear J..

I fear that this kind of battle will go on and on ...

Enjoyed your awareness in this significant piece.

Love,
Margherita

Bill, swords are not supposed to break, no. Thanks.

Marg, thank you sincerely for understanding this epic struggle.

great read, though I did hope for a victorious end, the tragedy is beautiful

A "valiant" write, Sir Poet Knight. You depict this inner conflict, brilliantly!

To the Id, the Ego, and the Super Ego!
The "I's" have it!
