Why so much suffering and sorrow?
Why the poor, the weak and the helpless?
Why the suffering of children in war zones?
Does God not hear their cries?

An old man remains alive years beyond his time
and a friend gives thanks to God
for keeping his body alive, if unable to move:
there, God cannot heal,
but He can use modern medicine for miracles!

A plane crashes in a mountain
and two hundred people die in the tragedy,
and I find myself asking – not “Why?”
but “Where is God today?”

If God can keep one decrepit body alive,
surely He can save two hundred people
from such a horrible and fiery death?
Surely someone on that plane
begged the Man upstairs for help this day?
Surely they were not all perverted sinners
deserving such dreadful punishment?

And so I ask: why save one half dead,
but let two hundred healthy ones die?
The answer lies in the question:
I don’t blame nor credit God for this –

There is a greater force, certainly
that determines the outcome
of every experience we face in life:
that also goes for “God” like it or not.

Actually God is about the only person I tend not to question.  I just have to believe in a bigger picture, and put faith in that.  I know in these times, it is easy to lose sight of our faith in all the chaos, but being the oldest in "this tribe" I have to hold the faith as it were, as an example to them all.

Yo WindWalker,

The greater force you mention "is" God.

Your concept of God seems to be rather juvenile.  You must be very young.

I think in the Lion King we approach the answer.  The older I become, the more I find there is much truth to the Circle of Life, but I think I might choose to rename it the "Spiral of Life" as we're exposed to the same given elements over and over in so many different contexts.  When I think of "spirals", I think of the old metal Slinkies and of how they they went WILD until the holder persevered  the ups and downs, ins and outs, finally to get hold on it; then able to manage it with a bit of control.  So it is with life, I suppose.

"There is a greater force, certainly
that determines the outcome
of every experience we face in life:
that also goes for “God” like it or not."

Food for thought, for sure!  The way we use our free-will could certainly be deemed as pleasing or  displeasing, to any entity.

I agree with the general idea of this piece. Where is this omnipotent "God" when children, innocent children, are dying around the world? Where is this omnipowerful "God" when planes are crashing into rivers and mountains and buildings? I often ask myself that. I ask others that, too. Most commonly my religious friends will answer that it was all a part of God's plan, and He is so omnipotent and omnitient that we can't possibly understand His master plan for the world. Or I'll get some long thing about how that's not God's work, but the Devil's. Honestly, I think there's something out there that is a higher force even than any "God" or "Allah" or "Jehovah" that any religion can come up with. Well written, Sir.

This poem could be looked at from many point of views. I'm just going to say that those are good questions. One day, we will know the answers, but until then, let's just enjoy life, why not, right?

The world is that way it is. WE can change it, its just more people have to make an effort at it if they want change. God gave US free will!

Enjoyed reading you ponder,
