Fixed Things

I have grown older and
I have had to fix things.
I have had to forget
to live.

When one's past is
only something to be left behind,
when memories have sharp hooks of pain,
A man, at any cost, must somehow find his way.

With hands in worn pockets
of my faded out jeans
I watch the ground when I walk.
With Goodwill sneakers,
I splash through puddles of spent rain.
It was my birthday today.
All my friends I don’t have
called and said they didn’t care.
My family’s unsent cards say much.

Honesty, they said is what’s best for you,
admittance of your ways, your savior.

The clock at my desk,
just waves its hands back and forth,
never getting anywhere.
Some angry teens broke my mailbox.
Morning birds sit at my window
And refuse to sing.

I fixed things.

If it really was your birthday today, my best wishes!

So after fixing the things, did the birds sing again?

You convey melancholy, but you have your way of coping with it, I see.

Intense write, dear Tim.

Love,
Margherita

hell;o Yoinn, I definitely love this, there is humour and sweet irony, plus wonderful considerations on relationships....Really a great moment of reading...Keep on the good work.

Perhaps you need to walk a new path, Yoinn.
A little bird seed and the birds will sing Happy Birthday to you.
