Be careful not to trample on these words
For they were meant for you
They are pleading with you to come back
Into the depth of my eyes
And into the tender parts of my heart

Be aware of these verses as you walk the through my garden
Please do not kick them away
It has been too long since I have spoken of love
Even with the silent words of poetry

And now that I lay my essence before you
I cannot seem to find those phrases which once
Slithered so easily from my lips and from my pen.

Perhaps you think my longings have worn themselves out.

Oh, no, my friend.
My longings are in good health
I believe it is just my pen that has grown weary.
The ink is no longer thick with the passion of youth,
But has been diluted with tears and with time.

I do not ask that you do anything more than
Glance at my words
But if I see you gather them from dark corners
and hold them up into the sunlight,
I will know that you still give credence
to the love that continues to pulse through my veins

And I could not ask for more than this

Many wonderful, touching lines here, dear Elizabeth!

A poem that holds deep emotions and love that last through time.

It doesn't seem that your pen has got weary ... it probably longs to be used for the purpose of love ... you are beautifully inspired here. Go on!

Love,
Margherita

Dearest Liz, these precious words would touch the heart of anyone who would read.  I have thought of you so often...and hope we can get together soon...

THe whole poem was beautiful, and something I can relate to very much.

But this part:

It has been too long since I have spoken of love
Even with the silent words of poetry

I loved this line about the silent words of poetry. This struck me most powerfully.

When I hold your words up to the sunlight - I really appreciate how the message within them shines.

Liz, this is exquisite love poetry. I'd have to highlight the same lines CG did, they hit deep within the heart of what poets are all about.

this is so good on so many different levels...I loved this line:

"It has been too long since I have spoken of love
Even with the silent words of poetry"

...wow...just wow...
