The Call Center Blues

Telephones buzzing,
ringing nonstop.
Talking and talking,
ready to drop.

Clicking the mouse,
tapping the keyboards,
uncomfortable desk chairs,
tangled computer cords.

"Pulling next call",
staring into space.
Can't wait for 6 o'clock,
so I can leave this place!

Angry respondents,
being cursed out.
Working at a call center,
it's what your job's about.

If the eye is blue,
you're in the clear.
If the eye turns green,
the boss's can hear.

Work for 80 hours,
get paid for 65.
Working at this place,
how's a person to survive?

This is what it's like,
working at The Myers Group.
Was on a call for 40 minutes,
hit "Not Ready" to recoup.

Can't read or draw,
nothing to pass the time.
So I sit here and think,
of words to match and rhyme.

Working in a call center myself, I can completely relate. You have one small advantage over me. You KNOW when your boss is listening.

haha, actually, there are times when we can't tell =(

The eye only turns green when they're watching the screen. But if they're just listening to the call, there's no way to tell.

Glad you could relate ! =)

Welcome to Pip!

I can relate to the working 80 hours and only getting paid for 65. It's so unfair, isn't it?

LOL, too bad I can relate to this completely!
Call center work can make you growl, bite your tongue, roll your eyes around. Even on good days, an 8 hour shift is enough to make you want to yank out phone lines by the time you're done.
Welcome to Pips!

Tiffiena...

Welcome to Passions! I once worked at an
answering service, and the hours were extreme,
as well as being the main center for storm
alerts!
But we had a multitude of overly-great clients
who enjoyed our voices and our attitudes...
especially when they could hear the smile
over the lines!

Please, check your email for a
Very Special Greeting!

Welcome to Pip! Your first entry speaks for so many who must endure this situation worldwide. Great job! I mean you did a great job!!

There should be regular intervals to recharge the batteries, by walking for a while or 10 minutes of relaxation ... or gym, something like that. I hope that this rule exists.

When I see the advertising on tv of call-centers for information relating to the town's services I wonder at those radiant smiling young people, so really happy to answer the calls ...

Cool detachment and kindness will make it easier and avoid that angry people get angrier.

Thank you for sharing this insight in your day.

Love,
Margherita

I would hate that job with a passion.
I am crazy enough at my job as it is.

Welcome to pips.
