It is fourth of july,
america doesn’t celebrate,
firecrackers are off in small cities,
don’t weep fortune,
my heart is sad as the dunes of Chasepeake bay
I will come back soon
when my heart hears
dances of America
staging depression,
when economy succumbs
to mysteries of new dreams.

Yes I was wondering about the same if the celebrations might be a bit subdued due to the depression, somehow I think not Yann.  Although in France on July 14 we might see a dampening effect.  Nice piece to ponder over.
PS:  I am travelling to Paris tomorrow (on business), just a short trip this time, back on Tuesday !

Hi! Lots of cities and towns will still have fireworks, though maybe less than in years past. I currently live two blocks from a small town park in Pennsylvania, and they will have fireworks after dark. Meanwhile, there is live music, and you can still see people tossing frisbees. I still remember huge fireworks shows in California where I grew up.
Many neighbors are still having their annual barbeque party, maybe more hot dogs and burgers than steaks this year.
Have a great weekend! And thank you for all the wonderful things the French people have done for the USA throughout history.

What a great thought you have expressed here, dear Yann! Indeed dreams are the spark that gets  the motor started ...

thanks hearth2hearth for the vivid comment...Yes in france july 14 is a great event as july 4 in Usa, there are a lot of fireworks everywhere and we can only regret the ancient bals where everybody danced, now there are concerts and shows...In this season Paris is hot and hard to breath, I hope you will enjoy your business travel and wait for your next poems...

Hello Midnitsun thanks for the very informative and kind comment, following your comment I changed the verse in every town with the verse in small towns, I wrote this poem because a friend told me about quietness in his village the fourth of july...I made a too quick judgment and connect with recession,, however i am proud of the poem except i guess some grammatical faults...

Yes dear margherita, you point it right, these are the essential verses of the poem, They say that we need some change on earth and not to consider economy as the priority...

thanks for the delightful comment.

Your piece captured the historical time well with the date of celebration.  Sadly, there are far too many out of work and/or losing their homes due to the reversal of the real estate boom.  However, we still celebrate our freedoms.  We just finished off that nice cool watermellon.

thank you sandgrain , US economy is shared all over the word and when recession is here she goes there and there is a lot of unemployment too in Europe, I think economy needs (but I am not sure) some regulations for helping people in future. Thanks for passing, reading and leaving a message.

Fine writing...I think some would appreciate such a show and some would appreciate the money being saved...
I watched a fantastic fireworks display at Pearl Harbor...James

yann,

This is a sensitive poem.  I like it - times are hard, but we will only become stronger in spirit.

Thank you for this one, my friend.
