Leaving you
Was the right
Thing to do,
I feel it all
The way through
To my bones.

There's a fortress
Around
All the treasures
I've found
On the mossy
Side of the stones.

Too priceless to
Just give away,
Plucked from dirt
Where they lay,
Protecting them is
How I atone.

My life simple
Since I left,
A peaceful death,
No regrets,
For even with you
I was alone.

They say I
Am stronger now,
Without you
To tear me down.
So out of the moss
I have grown.

~I am the keeper of what he cast off~

thanks so much, suthern...i am humbled to be in such good company...

dark...yes, there is strength in freedom...you need it in order to bear the loneliness after a break-up.

The cycle of life is captivating in it's emotions
and the cause and effect in their aftermath.

Nice work,  and welcome to passions!

"For even with you, I was alone" lovely line, great observation, the other side to that is if in love and parted, then in a crowd your longing gives you a sense of isolation even in familiar surroundings, as expressed by a friend of mine once when every one was patying around him, he was in love and parted by distance. I did not understand him, I was not in love.

First Brneyedgrly, Welcome to Pip! This is a beautiful poem. I know just how you feel. I have always found it strange that they would think we can't make it without them. If they could only see us now, huh?

beautiful poem, the emotion seemed so effortlessly conveyed. You penned it incredibly well.  I love the fact that you know what treasures lie within you and the fact that you have grown.  A priceless lesson... you must be a special girl!
