He left flowers on my counter
And notes posted upon my walls
About how he loved me, he claimed he loved me
Much more than anything
With some exceptions
That I now feel 'up against'
But I still climb love's ladder
Just with major setbacks
Of times I felt so insecure
And he left me there
To crawl back on my own
Promising he would never leave me
Then disappearing for my hardest hours
And not thinking twice, apparently
Because somehow he manages to sleep by me
And my tears keep only me awake

This one hits home for me, because I was in a similar relationship with my ex-husband. Hence why he is now my EX. In any case, it is a hard thing to leave a relationship when you are attached to someone so much. My own personal experience ended in mental and emotional abuse, before I got out of that relationship. I hope yours doesn't go that far, and doesn't escalate to physical abuse.

Goddess grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

While it's true that a friend in need is a friend indeed... someone who's consistently not there when needed most... is at best a roommate, not a partner. There's nothing lonelier than being alone while lying next to someone... and you've portrayed that pain so well!

Ouch, Emily.  This is a tragic piece in the story that it tells.  The beauty of it, however, is in the magic of the craft:  reading it is like viewing a crystal ball by the light of a full moon.  You just know that the future will be better.
Go well

"Much more than anything,
with some exceptions."
Very cleaver.
This poem should be shouted from the rooftops of our small town.
Maybe, you need to think about what it was that you saw in him that you liked in the beginning. A little exploration of your heart.
Because many times people dump the one they are with, and then go out and get another just like the one they were with.
Could it be, for instance, that you don't think you are worthy of respect?
Lovely poem dear, I think it should go back up to the top of the list.
