A New Line

Oh how a little effort it takes for
“One day” to become enough.
What is effort worth really, without success.
My dreams have always been better than me,
Always been to fast for a simple man to catch.
Once strong legs are now spent,
and can’t make the finish,
But a warrior’s pride won’t let me fall.
As I look forward at my path
I see my young man’s dreams pull away.

I let them leave.
Those aren’t the dreams I want anymore.
Now at middle age its time to quit chasing
And enjoy what I have,
Turn my focus to a new direction.

So I have decided to change the rules.
I’m making a new line right here.
I will cross it and unlace these shoes.

My new path has begun

this was poignant and truly life's evolution in each one of us...

My dreams have always been better than me,
Always been to fast for a simple man to catch.
Once strong legs are now spent,
and can’t make the finish,
But a warrior’s pride won’t let me fall.
As I look forward at my path
I see my young man’s dreams pull away.

this grabbed me and wouldn't let go....
excellent

thank you brneyedgrly and LeeJ.

I think there comes a point in everyone's life where they finally accept that they are not going to be powerful CEO or play in the NFL. I wanted to try and capture that acceptance in words without making it sound like people who are getting on in age cant try new things and explore just what is out there. It can be very liberating Im 49 and just started teaching myself the piano. It's hard but I'm haveing fun lol

This is a very uplifting write. I am glad I found this. Welcome to Pip!

Wishing you joy with the piano! I had begun learning at 38 myself, so I understand. I just did it out of my personal pleasure, to let the music touch my heart. Of course a lot of exercising is necessary! Enjoy it!

Love,
Margherita

Oh how I loved this !  I've reached that stage myself and how liberating it feels.
Well done :-)

I'm with you!

My kids have informed me that they are adults and I have finally said, "Okay".

I just wish they'd raised me better!

Much enjoyed.

A thought provoking poem Joinn. I find as you go through life your values and ideas

change, mostly for the better, but at every
bridge through each decade there is always

something to be pleased about and you should enjoy it to your utmost and while you can. Thanks for a great post.

Thank you Margherita
for your reply and nice welcome.
Yeah this piano stuff is pretty cool. I had the house rocking about a hour ago. If you call "mary had a little lamb" a rock piece. lol

Thank you Heart2Heart

Yes it is pretty liberating. Not as much as jumping in the river without your clothes but its close.

Thankyou TD,

Yeah I tried to get the barefoot part in there to symbolize that im not running anymore, or chasing. Time to dig the toes in the grass.
