Dreams Of Years Gone By
By Paul Wilson

Dreams of years gone by come to me
They awaken me from slumbers hold
Leaving me longing… longing for
Youthful days of old

The years pass by so fast
Oh how I wish they would return again
Bring me back my youth I ask
Let me be the innocent age of ten

Maybe I would rather be thirteen
Not so innocent but not yet a man
Hanging out with the guys
Checking out the girls when we can

A time for growing and learning
The pitfalls of life each day
A one way street we’re traveling down
Making treasured memories along the way

Life’s just a game we all learn to play
Days without a care or so it seems
Laughing at the world as time passed by
Man I really had it all… living my dreams

Sleep grips me once again in its gentle grasp
Dreams return but now I’m a man
Working everyday just trying to hold on
Responsibilities many…doing the best I can

Three children and a wonderful wife
How did I know what the future held for me
Not long ago I was just a carefree kid
Now I’m a husband and father of three

Dreams of old and days gone by
They leave me with a smile
Memories of manhood and my youth
Visit me for a little while

In the Autumn of my life
I reflect on my past
Some times I'd rather forget
Some I wish would last

Dear Paul, even while yearning for the years of youth you are able to do it with so much grace and serenity.

You have written these dreams very beautifully!

Love,
Margherita

Nice one, Pual. Sometimes I wonder if some of us weren't born too early - yet let us be thankful  that we are still alive. It's great that we can think over the years gone by. We need to give thanks to God - for His kindness toward us. Again, a nice one,Paul.

booky1940...Thanks. I agree with you we need to be thankful for the time given us and the loved ones we share this time with.
Thanks so much for reading...Paul

2islander2...I really do have a great life, because all the material things don't matter if we don't have the love of our family we are missing the greatest treasure of all...Paul

Bill...My friend your words make me blush. I don't know about being one of my best, but I really appreciate you saying so.
Thanks again Bill for your caring words...Paul

well I am happy I returned to read again...so I will adjust my response because I  can  relate better now to the ending than I could to the "blast"~~~

Maureen...The blast thing did sound stupid and corny. My life has been anything but a blast. LOL...Glad you returned and thanks for saying you can relate to it more now...Paul
