Why would anyone want to write a poem?
What is writing anyway? Crude self thought?
And that picky meter stuff, all for naught.
Do people really talk like that? Ah hum,
Upon the lilt of dawn I see a page
And if I put some words there on the lines
I’ll soon enough seek rhymes with wild designs
But still for all that ink it’s just a cage!
You see? Mere words can not give meaning to
This mark of pen or type. So what’s the use?
No matter, more employs the soul, set loose
Beyond spirit’s mortal grasp, free pursue,
Our heart’s honest candour, jealous desire,
To catch another’s eye and share the fire!

Sounds like you are upset? I for one, would like to learn that meter and get it right everytime. But, as it is, I am lucky to get it right, one time. LOL!

I think we do talk with some form of meter - maybe it's white space.  But, I think there is a conversational flow.  When people write free style poetry, I think that that white space is often overlooked.

Interesting poem.  I don't think we talk in meter, but there is beauty in the flow.  That's what I think anyway.  I still love free style though too.

Thanks for posting this - I am wandering off thinking about it and maybe that is one thing that poetry is all about.

Captivating thoughts, well rendered, dear Bloodline.

I think whether in rhymes or free verse poetry is the heart's instrument and diffuses tunes, sometimes happy, sometimes sad.

And in sharing there is joy, no doubt.

Love,
Margherita

Yes, I sometimes wonder about the same and if it's worth the bother.   Nothing beats a heart to heart chat though Bloodline.  You can say what you like about internet, and I know some people won't agree with me, but it will never replace a real person in your life.
