When Black-eyed Susans peek o'er the sleeping Queen Anne's lace,
Air becomes less dense, spreading coolness upon ones' day;
Landscapes seem less focused with descending  sun,
But soon, the sharpness will display in sparks,
when through darkness, fireflies shall come.

They'll light the way to magic
A place of rhymed delight,
where all possibilities commence
in twinkling aeroflight

With teasing flits and neon shifts,
insects play the night
Syncopating star-strings,
Waking field and mice.

Their day has just begun,
In darkness and weed they'll play
Under watchful constellations
in the field of star and hay.

You make me yearn to spend a day ~ and evening and night! ~ in the country. The sights, the sounds, the smells.... Just gorgeous!
Heck, one day will never do! I want to move to the country!!!

Wow, dear Miscé, this brought back memories from my youth. I adore your poem, it is beautifully written and brings the dance of nature into wondrous focus.

What do I smell? Hay! Will never forget that summer scent.

Love,

miscellanea - when I drive by the hay fields here I'll give them more value, as I think of your writing...

I could feel the breeze blowing through, and lifting the humid summer air off the field.  What a nice flavor to this uncut hay.

Ah, give me that country life!  It sounds a little like Green Acres!  (I loved that T,V, show!)  Yes, country life has its pluses, but living in the city and suburbs have theirs, too!   Just to think about the cuisine found in a city makes it seem rather enhancing!  (When I visited my sister in Houston, every night she treated me to different cuisine found around the world!) You don't find the diversity living in the country you find elsewhere.

Hey, if you come to OHio, I know where there's a place you can stay!  Wear your boots!

Margherita,

You have me wondering if you grew up on a farm, and if so, I'm wondering what type of farming you did.   Yes, the smell of fresh cut hay... It seems to remain in our memory banks!
Actually, we haven't cut ours this season, as our tractor has a mild problem.  A gas cap has fallen in the fuel tank and...!  We've been trying to figure imaginative ways to remove it without having to tear the tractor down!  Farm life!

It was good hearing from you.  I'd love to hear poetic memories of your life in the country.

Glad you like the flavor of the uncut field.  In the day time, it just looks like unruly weeds with lots of Queen Anne's lace, black eyed Susans, and a few scattered butterfly plants.  But at night, from the shelter of weeds, escape zillions of fireflies.  The misfortune of our malfunctioning tractor has proven to be a blessing in da skies this year!  The fireflies are much more prolific in the tall grassy environment!

Thanks for your comment, TD.   It's always a pleasure to hear from you.

Unfortunately, the smell of hay is followed by the smell of sweat as everyone labors to get the bales into the barn. LOL

You write my childhood, my friend... and give me a visit to the farm in the middle of a busy work week. Thank you! *S*

It is I who should thank you, suthern, for taking time to read my thoughts  and savor them for a moment or two.  We don't actually bale the hay anymore, but I've been in the hay fields like you. knowing the smell of perspiration, diesel fumes, and the smell and calling rain in not so distant earshot of thunder, with lightning firing up the sky... That's about the time the cows would get out, too!  Oh, those were the good old days?  Yes, I think so.  It's so good to hear from you.  I have missed my friends here, and now I find I have to go back to work and probably will need take a respite of writing for a while.   Shucks!

hugs,
misce'
