A sheep grazes outside our window, yet we call it Dog,
It greets the cars and bleats at us, having mental fog.
Around the tree it rings in loops
Following me around;
A peek a boo sheep-y dog,
In hooves, in rhythm clogs.

Buckston’s in his doghouse,
Guardian of air and land
Barking at his shadow,
At anything that lays or stands.
His specialty is bird, flyin’ high above his roof,
For winged things,  escapes from him
an extra blankin’ woof.

Our country home is simple,
No other place I’d choose to be,
Not far from weed and thistle
Or, from flowers on the trees,
From wooded hills and shaded valley
From graceful running stream,
We have it in a nutshell,
Life, an ever-budding green.

misc,

I love Dog and Buckston.  Your home sounds beautiful.  I love country.

Thank you for allowing us to look out your window and pet your animals.

Thanks, Alison.   It is beautiful to us, but I tend to see beauty in most things.  I love the field of weeds at dusk.  (Oh yes, those monstrous things a tractor should undertake!)

When Black-eyed Susans peek o'er the closing  Queen Anne's lace,
the air becomes less dense, spreading coolness upon ones' day;
the eyes, now, less focused, with setting of the sun,
But soon, the sharpness will display in sparks,
when through darkness the fireflies shall come.

They'll light the way to magic
A place of rhymed delight,
where all possibilities commence
in twinkling aeroflight

With teasing flits and neon shifts,
insects play the night
Syncopating star-strings,
Waking field and mice.

Their day has just begun,
In darkness they will play
Under the watchful constellations
in the field of star and hay.

(Oh my!  You've spurred on my muse!  I better post this before I lose... it!)

Thanks, Alison!

Sounds like a beautiful place to be. I loved the country, when I was living there. If I could I'd go back to the country.

I appreciate your comment about the country.  Country life is... beautiful, but isn't any place you call your home? Home sweet homa, what can I say?

It's been good hearing from you again, Oklahoma Rose.  I see you have a little homa in your name!   How kewl is that?

I'm so pleased to read about your home environs. They sound so you! Are you a product of your environment or is your environment a product of you? lol

~ Feels warm, natural, relaxed and folksy! My kinda home ~ and people!

This was an unexpected treat to read! The more I get to know you and your world the more I like you and your world!

Love & a big, warm hug,
Linda

Hey Misce,
So if your sheep is called "dog", how did you do in biology class? I'd give up the city any day. Except I need a job! Lovely write.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Hi, beautiful place you live in, but you should send your poem by mail to Balladeer, so he can put it in this special page.

Earth Angel,

It's great to hear from you before I go back to that wonderful institution of learning.  (Can hardly wait!)  It gives me pleasure to have given you a treat in this little snippet of the crazy animals around my house.   It was a treat to me, as well, that a poem surfaced this summer.   I was afraid my muse had gone on summer vacation when I was supposed to be the one on summer vacation!

Thanks again for your warm comment.  I always enjoy hearing from you.  Wishing you well!

Larry,

Biology class?   Is that the one you talk about adverbs and agitatives? (You know, those little descriptive words that get under your skin and agitates).  I did real goood in that class, dissecting phrases and frogs.  I think I landed at least a C!

Great to hear from you again, Larry!  I chuckled at your silly comment!  Have a good one, Larry!

Titia,

Thanks for your comment and advice.  I'll do just that.

How are your sheep doing?   We just have the one now.  Peanut's become a real pet and pest, but she's as cute as can be.  She runs to greet all the cars that drive in, expecting to be petted.  What a character she is!

   Again, thanks for stopping by.

Dear Misce, your poem was a delight to read
and that last verse is magnificent. you are

indeed a lucky lady but I'm sure no more than you deserve. I loved it. love

I enjoyed being just there with you, dear Miscé, you really transported me there with your vivid imagery. Pet that lovely sheep for me, she is cute!

Most beautiful writing!

I do love the countryside too, but I would keep a lot of bats to swallow all the mosquitos!

Love and joy.
