Summer came, went like a flash .
Soft scents of wet grass -old hats.
Weathered slippers nesting on the porch.
Collecting scents of memories left behind
A family waits.
She called, whispering through breath hollow.
A calloused voice, not the first time, not the last.
.
He is ill; he may not see tomorrow-baby can t breathe.
A strong family gathers, offers good thoughts, prays
for a late summer breeze to come
and sweep the porch clean, scattering nesting hats
and worn slippers -gone forever in the wind.
Pray, shatter the lie- life holds only one good tear.
The promise that only one bloom will fall from the vine
or carry sharp thorns to pierce a mother’s heart.
.
Come alone, leave alone!
.
Tis the middle journey cared and shared.
Pray, a good family has strength, love
to carry through nesting slippers and weathered hats
left out on the porch.
Long gone from late summer' s blow.
Yet, collect scents of memories left behind,
when summer came and went like a flash,
and a family gathered to pray.

The rippling Uni-Verse of your poetic wind currents caressing the canvas of other minds with exquisite details of Stillwater dynamic spectrum elocution presentations.

Yo dear Jan,

"Come alone, leave alone!"

Yes indeed.  Birth and death are deeply personal matters.

You've wrapped this up well, giving the reader a softly focused picture of the circle of life.

As I run down the list of poems today I am stopped by yours. I read one other of yours that stopped me. I read them though several times and I think you really have something extra. I see you just joined recently. I am looking forward to more of you fine poetry. Thank you for that gift. They are a fine present after a day of mind mindless work.

Thanks, G Bride

Happy that you like my work.  I am a writer, and have been writing all of my life.  Although mostly a novelist, I have such a fondness for poetry.  I just adore it!

Thanks again

Jan,

We leave nothing permanent, do we.  It all blows away and maybe sits on someone else's shelf for a time - until maybe it's just another forgotten piece of who we once were.  Dust to dust - our possesions gather pieces of us as we become part of the earth.

You leave me thinking - and loving your poem.

Thanks fellow poets:

Happy that you enjoyed this one.  Yes, dust to dust, Allison, not a doubt in my mind.  those nesting hats and worn slippers are about all that we ever really leave behind.  and so, while we are here, it is all about the family.
