Branches snake,
and grey leaves shake
as winter chokes the air.

Little wings with big bodies.
Flying is impossibility, cemented,
Burrowed into earth.

Where worms blindly find their way,
and the dusted bones of a thousand men
rest fitfully below us.

“Persephone, don’t sweeten your lips
With the sour stain of dark places
The berry red of lonely faces”

What was blue, a deathly hue
Now finds its countenance on you
And the long green leaves now croon Greensleeves
Lamenting their captivity

Green and red and blue and gold
Are all but shades of grey
Shadows, mist and vapour.
Shadows of what it was,
Or what it could have been.

Springtime's wonderful sentiments and perhaps some sad moments caught in this delightful poem.  A truly beautiful write  and pleasure to read.
