                  Homeless  Puppy
                      By Billie ( age 12 )

A dog is scratching at the door
His little paw is very sore.
He belongs to no one on this lane.
Bring him in, give him a name.

          Rowdy, Tuffy or little Guy.
He'll thank you on this stormy night.
Open the door so he can be
A little pal for you and me.

His nose is hot, his head is drooped.
He is sitting patiently on our stoop.
No one loves him.  He is very frail
He can't even wag his tiny tail.

Let him come in by the warm hearth.
Bring him in out of the dark.
Have him drink from a little pan.
His coat is shabby, but a delicate tan.

With care and rest and food galore.
His foot no longer will be sore.
So let him in, this little chap.
We will make him strong and fat.

His eyes will fill with happiness.
All his fears, be put to rest.
We'll have a very special time
Me and this dog, that will be mine.

                *****  *****  *****

I am an animal lover from way back.

Oh this is charming, loved it Billie.  And I would do just the same, bring him in !  Can't tell you how many strays got a new home with me and mine through the years.  So many unwanted animals out there, people just don't care and sling them out when they go on vacation. A pleasure to read m'dear

PS for Billie:  Just discovered you wrote this when you were 12 !!!!  Gosh I am impressed!!.  I would love to know if any of your kids or grandkids have inherited your poetic talents ?  None of mine are interested in poetry unfortunately, they can't even be bothered reading.... don't know if that is typical to expect from our youngsters nowadays ? I will ask my daughter to read sometimes just to see if I have the meter right, but she does so very reluctantly....

Billie, once again you offer a great, enjoyable example of your early talent! So sweet and smart.

I do hope your parents enjoyed your creativity.

Love,
Margherita

That was one lucky little puppy to have found a home with one as loving and caring as you, my dear lover of flora and fauna!

You were quite the girl and became quite the woman!

I can not think of a time growing up that we didn't have dogs. Lots of dogs.  Some things never change. Except, Right now, I do not have a dog.

Cute and clever poem
Love, Tracey.

The answer is always NO, Until the question is asked.

Dear Billie, you are a very kind hearted person, it sticks out a mile. People who

are kind to animals are usualy at the top of the tree when it comes to decency and

generosity. I just loved your poem. Love
to you dear Lady.
