Hannah's Song

They think they can see me,
They think they know.
No one really knows
How I feel.
Carrying these thoughts alone--
The weight of them
Bows my head
Sometimes.

I can smile,
And look them in the eye.
But it's not really me,
As I force this cage of skin
To appear
How they want it to seem.
But the effort of that smile
Nearly breaks me.

"You are young, Hannah,"
They say.
"You are beautiful,"
They flatter.
Do these things really matter
Against this burden
That I feel inside?

Then I hear a song
In the distance.
It triggers those sensations
All over again.
The song reminds me
Of something sad
And beautiful
In it's lonliness--

And I know then
That whomever
Wrote that song
Must have been
Walking along this street
Just ahead
Of me.

I remember feeling just like this.  You made me smile and think how happy I am not to be that age now.

Keep smiling Garapan and if you smile long enough, your sad feelings will dissolve

and you will feel better for it.
I enjoyed the post.

Not sure how you managed to come across that website :-) but I absolutely adore your connection to the feelings this image inspires.

Yo XGarapanX,

This is a pretty picture of a pretty girl.  Tell her not to be sad.

I like this poem a lot, it goes well with the picture.

Thank you, Prasad. I find a picture that speaks to me, and write the poem based on what I see, so to hear your comment verifies for me that I have found the common theme.
