Tonight, my mind loans
itself
to restless overtones-
infatuated with entertaining worry,
where do the thoughts go when I throw them
like stones
across the deep river of passion and fury?

The second-hand moves when I look at it sly.
I tell the distant dawn, "I'm in no hurry"-
but it's a bold-faced lie, I laugh a cry
as I scare the sheep into scatter and scurry.

And maybe there's no way I'll figure out why
my crystal ball cracked and then turned blurry-
you see, I love a man, and will till I die,
regardless the verdict imposed by the jury...

no matter the sentence the judge sees fit,
I will always skip stones, I must admit,
to see if just maybe I'll see where they go-
but Mind is no match for Heart's undertow.

a particularly fine beginning:

"Tonight, my mind loans
itself
to restless overtones-
infatuated with entertaining worry,
where do the thoughts go when I throw them
like stones
across the deep river of passion and fury?"

deep waters indeed!

applause for this powerful 'penning'!

Wow, dear Dixie, it's good to have you sharing your great talent again!

Powerfully creative rendering of a tough reality.

Love and hugs.

Ah, shadowy one... being home to have such wonders is the answer to one prayer... having such a love is another. And prayers are still being uttered... without ceasing. May the answers lift your heart higher than it's ever been.

Hi Dixie...you have often been on my mind.  As always I see the strength of truth in your poem.  You got me thinking about your metaphor of stone throwing and realized that the art has much to do with the perfect shape of the stone as well as the wrist action and the water.  Wishing you well always.
