CUL DE SAC
21 June 1982

A woman gazes at a man in a cage
And searches for the key that will let her in
To share his Hell
And gently lead him out to
Freedom.

She finds the key
But the keyhole has been cemented in.

She turns away from the man
With dried cement on his hands.

Some walls need a sledge hammer and time to come down.  Nicely portrayed sentiments.

Thanks, Mark.  Smiles, the sledge hammer wouldn't have worked on him, but time and contemplation did!

Thanks, inkedgoddess for your sweet thoughts.  Actually he did - and a lot more . . . 2 years later.

Having been 'drawn out' through a few knotholes (if not keyholes)
likely by the nose, and ultimately to no good end ... perhaps I can
understand the cementing!

Interesting 'write'!

serious applause!!

Thank you Bruce for your interesting perspective.  Yes, I too, understand the cementing, but I am too naïve or too trusting or too brave or probably just plain too stupid to do the cementing myself - it may make one more vulnerable and one may suffer more - but it is infinitely more enriching and more fulfilling and ultimately I know I am much happier for it.

Wonderful write, Diana! I guess some people just enjoy a good temporary self-caging.

Yo dear Owl,

You're too easily discouraged.  Get yourself one of those big bolt cutters--makes it easy as pie.  Barge right in there.

Thank you Kacy.  If it is temporary, then there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Giggles, Bobby!  Just picturing it!

Your title and analagy gives your piece serious impact!  It's so sad that some seem to only grow physically for years.

God bless,

Dear sweet Owl,I think that great suffering have created solid cement, may be she should hammer the door(women can do that)and forget the key and may be they could be together....However it is a very enjoyable poem and it teaches a lot...

have a nice day

Thank you, Ida.  I am glad you enjoyed it and that it made you think.

Thank you, Rae.  Actually he grew in so many ways and he taught me more about all sorts of things than anyone else - love, life, horse-riding (we both had a horse each), poetry, indigenous trees (my garden forest started because of what he taught me), birds, flowers, music, - opera in particular, ecology, looking up things one doesn't know instead of being too lazy to do so, to mention a few - but his twisted back gave him certain psychological problems that were difficult for him - and me - to handle.

Thank you Yann.  Actually, yes he did have great suffering.  He had a brilliant brain, but had no self confidence, largely because he developed a twisted back at the age of 16 and it was getting progressively but very gradually worse.  Actually I did try more than just the key - I suppose I did try hammering the door to a certain extent (but there is a point where one needs to accept defeat, and I did), and he did come back to me, totally out of the blue, of his own accord, 2 years later, and we had a wonderful 18 months together - then I left him in 1986 because I couldn't handle his psychological problems, then regretted it, but he wouldn't forgive me or take me back, so that was that.  But thanks for your kind concern, Yann.  Smiles.

Wow, dear Diana, your "Cul de sac" is one of the most effectful and creative renderings of self-imposed reclusion and denial of help I have read. Stunning work!! ... painful reality ...

You are one amazing Poet!

Love and hugs.

Thank you Roniece.  I only share such work with people I feel trust and feel comfortable with - and Pipsters are precisely such people!

Thank you Margherita for your special words.  Yes, it was a very sad reality.

Actually, I'm not Marchmadness - I'm probably a 12-month madness, LOL. But thanks for the comments, anyway.
