     Laughter is The Best Medicine

In the days when I was young I had a very good friend
A very wise old chap by the name of Pederson
He certainly had a great outlook on life
Stating that laughter was the very best medicine.

Now as the years have slowly slipped away
I have found that advice to be so very true
For if you can write or tell a funny joke
Like the one below well that’s what I try to do.

He smelled strongly of alcohol when he sat down on the seat
On a wooden park bench next to the City’s head Priest,
His face half covered with lipstick and stains on his tie,
You could see his dignity & self-respect had long ago ceased.

A half empty gin bottle stuck out of his coat pocket
And his threadbare old clothing was quite shabby indeed,
Oblivious to his surroundings as he turned over the page
Of the local news- paper and then started slowly to read.

Then after a few moments of very deep concentration,
He turned to the good Father and made this request,
He said,“Father can you tell me, what causes severe arthritis,
I think I might know, but I thought to ask you was best.”

“I most certainly can,” said the Priest, answering the question,
It’s caused by too much loose living, his face set dead-pan
“Also going out with cheap women and having too much to drink,
And worst of all, the loss of respect from your own fellow man.”

“Well I’ll be damned,”said the drunk, as he returned to his paper,
But the Priest’s conscience pricked him for his uncharitable reply,
Apologizing to the drunk,he said,“How long have you had arthritis,
That it is a most terrible disease, I’m sure no one will deny?

The drunk sat back on the seat and looked at the Priest,
“Oh it’s not me that’s got arthritis,” he quite solemnly said,
“But I just read the headlines in this local news-paper,
Where it states the Pope has arthritis and is laid up in bed.

Oh, Lindsay, this was a fun read and shows how being prejudiced can cause some trouble ...

Our poor Pope! I have seen him caressing a snake shown to him when in Sydney ...

Love,
Margherita

Oh! Oh! Oh! Hee! Hee! Hee! This Catholic could not help but crack up over this one! Oh me, oh me, oh my!

Laughter cures what ails ya! lol

I'd have loved to seen the expression on that priest's face! ~ but I bet it would have soon been replaced with a good laugh.

Another good one, my dear Aussie Man!

Love and Laughs ~ and a great big hug,

Linda

Hi Lindsay, I have had a nasty summer cold and plumbing problems this past week and was sorely in need of a good laugh. Thank you for this poem.

Hi Roniece, it's great to see you in the response section again, I thought that I

must be out of favour. I have had trouble with my computer and lost your email address

and phone number, much to my disappointment.
I'm so glad that I gave you a good laugh.
Have a great day my friend. Love
