Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2008-10-14 02:04 AM

I asked my cousin if it was still fall in New York City
He laughed and told me that fall had just begun.

How odd.

Snowflakes and Chickadee make their first serious assault
upon my birdfeeders and Chokecherry trees.

It’s winter here.

Each flake is a bud that erupts into a white garden of beauty,
and I am too far removed from New York City to understand
a fall that is beginning to spatter dramatic colors bright.
I watch the ice begin to form on the slough
and the Chickadees gather seeds to store for bitter cold days.

The aroma of rotted leaves and cranberries is smothered,
and all the things I meant to put away before snow
are covered.  I can forget that they are there
as I gather wood in armfuls and stoke the fire for the cats.

People look at me with incredulous expressions
When I share how much I love winter.

Sighing here, remembering my Rainbow Dancing Lights (Aurora nights)in the Interior.
Crisp frigid air, moose and lynx tracks in the snow....yes, there is incredible beauty and serenity in winter, especially if you have a safe wood stove in a cozy cabin, and a pile of wood stacked nearby.
Standing outside beneath a canopy of stars at midnight (just miles below the Arctic Circle) is a memory forever etched in my memory banks.

Yo Alison,

Winter is frozen ears and fingers.  I try not to think about it.

Alison,

You dress the winter warm and wonderful and bundle it up in your special kind of poetry.

I thank you for this glimpse into your Alaska.

Dear Alison, you just increase my yearning for a true Winter to aching levels with this wonderful write.

I would love to CELEBRATE Winter the way you do.

Sigh, I want snow!

Love and hugs.

Loved this Alison, nice images you send here and another piece of wood goes into my fire for the little dogs and for the family when they awaken. Stay warm my friend and take care.
