Educated Ignorance

City people come in varying degrees
of educated ignorance.
In some cities, they are cowed
by their religions and governments:
they walk hunched over, drab grey, silent,
women covered head to toe.

In others - mine, for example?
They try to outdo themselves
in ardent acts of displayed stupidity -
whether pedestrians or drivers:
seems to me they’re all auditioning
for some bit part
in a beer commercial:
they yell insults at one-another,
sometimes arguing and fighting.
Vehicles are equipped
with the latest noise-making gadgetry
and failing that,
the 50's mindset takes over
and tires squeal - and tires burn:
stupid is as stupid does.

And where do these bad actors
learn their anti-social behaviour?
From TV of course –
but the best performance
was learned and earned
at the local high school.

Now don’t get me started
on the subject of cost
for all this “educated ignorance”!

I agree that there is a lack of education in mutual respect. Lightheartedness which is characteristic of youth sadly often transforms into silliness.

Thank you for your powerful reminder that more should be done to bring youth back on track of responsible behaviour.

Love,

With all the stupidity going on both in and out of our schools, it's hard not to become jaded.

In spite of the apparent seriousness of this write, you literally cracked me up a few times with your "tongue-in-cheek" humor!

Yo WindWalker,

Thank heavens we’re different here in The City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia).

Here we all love each other to pieces--sometimes very little pieces, and sometimes in bigger chunks.

In truth, Philadelphia is a wonderful place to live.  I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

not likely just 'city folk'..
it's rather the generic scourge of history...humanity being 'cowed
by religions and governments' (or most frequently a meld of said deadly duo):
