She sits beside herself
knitting a shroud of worry
The news sprang out of nowhere
From his lips to Mothers ears
Enlist? When? Why?
Let's talk about this son
You've already decided?
Please at least wait until November
so we can maybe get an idea of..
..there's a war going on son...
..you are a grown man now son, and..
...we support you...we love you..we need you
WE NEED YOU!!!!
Her heart is a lump in her throat
It will remain lodged there keeping
the taste of coppery fear in her mouth
and fresh in her mind
How can this be?
We talk about this war around the dinner table
almost every night
She wants to run in the streets SHOUTING..
NO! You can't have him!! He's Mine!!

He's Mine

*hes mine*

War has never taken a mother's heart and despair into account ...

Thank you for this powerful outcry.

Love,

Thank you both. Sadly, this is a true story. My son is signing up soon...

My grandaughters best friend is going into the Air Force and she is very unhappy right now, They have been friends since grade school. I guess that's what her friend wants to do but my granddaughter is very worried about her. You wrote a touching poem here from a Mother's point of view.
I can only imagine how you must feel.

I know that feeling. When my brother enlisted I wanted to scream "he's mine!" But he did go off to war and came home a strong man.

Know yourself before you try to know someone else.
