Dedicated To My Mother
1908-1989
I called her Toots always in fun.
Right up to her death she knewthat name.

We are sitting in the doctor’s office. You looking so tiny and
scared. The doctor is saying, “Alzheimer’s Disease.”
You look at me with fear in your eyes,
“What is going to happen to me?”
“ I will take care of you.” Is my concerned reply.
“Don’t worry mama everything will be alright.”

Her face wrinkled with time, but soft and delicate, with a slight blush of
pink.
Her hair a soft snowy white, still beautiful with its
natural curl.
This beautiful old woman is my Mother.
I help this delicate and frail woman into her favorite chair.
This woman so fragile and bent, eyes and mind fading, body tired and all
worn out.
I place her favorite book upon her delicate knees.
This is a book of her life’s memories all fadedand torn.
She turns the pages of her life and says,
“Who is this pretty girl?”
That is you mama.
You were a young girl in your teens,
being silly sitting on the old Model T with a pipe in your mouth.
Look at that smile you were having so much fun.
“Who is this pretty girl?”
That is you mama.
You are in a flapper dress going to a party I do believe.
Look at that smile you were having so much fun.
“Who is this pretty girl?”
That is you mama.
I was a little girl, we were at the zoo.
You leaning against the tree and smiling at me.
We were having so much fun mama.
We were having so much fun.
“Who is that woman with the white hair?”
That is you mama, that is you.
“Who are you?”
It’s me Toots, it’s me.

Hugs
BonBon

There is such an air of poignancy about this. I feel as if I am intruding on a private moment between a sweet white haired old lady and a devoted daughter indulging her mother.
Well done on producing such a wonderful tribute to your "Toots."

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Alzheimers or not, I envy your mother to have had such a loving daughter.  Thank you for looking after her so well.

Thank you for reading this poem about my mother. My poor mom also had Parkinson's. I kept her home for her fear was always "being put away." I look back in time and wonder howerver did I do it. Work, raise my son and take care of mom.I guess when we need strength it is given to us all we have to ask God and he hears. Sometimes I think He say no because He knows we can handle whatever we are asking for. Then other times it is yes because He knows we need someone to lean on.
Thank you for reading.

You're an angel, Bonnie. Your mother was so lucky to have you and you are lucky to have had such a mother.

Beautiful and touching BonBon. My mother-in-law is going through this right now and it is heartbreaking. Sometimes she thinks my wife is her sister. Really hard to see people go through this. Take care and Have fun. Steve

Bonnie, you have written this with your heart and you touched mine ever so deeply!

Once, when my own Mother was ill, she woke up and looked at me bent over her and asked "Who are you?" and ... I almost fainted for the impact of this tremendous moment. And it was only a moment. I imagine what you have gone through, I have had two friends whose husbands were in this situation ...

Bonnie, you are a beautiful soul and on the level of the soul you and your Mother surely communicate again in deep love.

Love,
Margherita

I am mastered totally by Love."
