At a time when the earth
was as quiet as a nun,
but for the rising birds
that blocked out the sun
as they rose from the marshland
to the endless sky.
From my place in the future
I watch them fly.
Through a door in my mind
left slightly ajar
between my cluttered world
and this scene from afar.

A vision from long ago,
almost as ancient as earth time,
yet as sharp and clear as yesterday
it lingers in my mind.
I cannot see the face
turned toward the sky,
I do not know the place
where these lush marshlands lie.
But the memory is alive with a power
that defies both death and time.
This one majestic moment
Is lhe jewel of many lifetimes.

Simply beautiful, Ida, and I do know of "the vision" which although different for everyone still tells it like it was and can be again.

Ida, please leave the door ajar more often. I enjoyed the peek inside greatly...good job

Dear Ida, this is breathtakingly beautiful. It somehow "reached out" to me ... I adore watching those harmonious, almost sensual clouds of birds in the evening sky.

So interesting how this vision stays with you through lifetimes!

Ida,

You have some good rhyming going on in this one.

I'm most likely 'addicted' to vers libre (not typically very fond of rhyme)...but, I rather like:

"A vision from long ago,
almost as ancient as earth time...

...lingers in my mind...

I do not know the place
where these lush marshlands lie.
But the memory is alive with a power
that defies both death and time.
This one majestic moment
Is the jewel of many lifetimes."

applause!
